PROVING GROUND...
ROH World Champion Bandido vs. “The Franchise of ROH” Jay Lethal
As the phrase goes, out of the frying pan into the fire! Just days after defeating “The Learning Tree” Chris Jericho to become a 2-Time ROH World Champion, “The Most Wanted” Bandido is stepping onto the Proving Ground to face “The Franchise of ROH” Jay Lethal! Though the two men are quite familiar with one another from previous matches in ROH (including a World Tag Title Proving Ground, match during Lethal's title reign) as well as in Mexico, they've surprisingly never faced each other one-on-one. Well that changes in the main event of tonight's edition of ROH ON HONOR CLUB!
The last time Bandido and Lethal shared the ring in ROH was four years ago, almost to the day, when ROH WRESTLING 499 aired on April 9, 2021. That evening Jay and his partner were victorious in tag team action over Bandido and his, just as they were a few months prior in the aforementioned World Tag Title Proving Ground match. In fact across the five times they've previously faced each other in ROH, it was Lethal side of the bout that proved victorious in three instances. However, extrapolate that across their career bouts with one another, and we see a 3-3-1 record with that 1 stemming from a Five-Way battle in Mexico neither Lethal nor Bandido won.
Delving a little further into the fight mathematics of the bout, Lethal has been in 19 previous Proving Ground matches and was the reigning champion in 17 of those. In the two where he was the prospective challenger, Lethal split the difference at 1-1. However it should be noted that in the one where he lost (ROH WAR), Jay was just one of three other potential challengers to the World TV Title then held by Matt Taven. In his only one-on-one Proving Ground challenge at ROAD TO GREATNESS: NIGHT 2, he defeated Taven to earn a championship bout. In addition, Lethal was in one of the first-ever singles Proving Ground matches when he, as reigning World TV Champion, defeated Mark Briscoe at GATEWAY TO HONOR 2011.
Conversely, ROH World Champion Bandido has only fought in one Proving Ground match before, the previously mentioned World Tag Title contest at GATEWAY TO HONOR 2020, and his team fell in its attempt to earn a title fight. One final statistical note about the World Title and Proving Ground bouts: in 21 previous such contests no one has ever defeated the World Champion to earn a title bout, and only one man ever went the time limit to earn a championship fight. Coincidentally it was Jay Lethal who was the reigning World Champion at that time...
So can “The Franchise” earn his way to his first ROH World Title fight since the FULL GEAR 2023 bout with Eddie Kingston, or will Bandido survive his first experience on the Proving Ground as ROH World Champion?
ONE-ON-ONE...
The Conglomeration's Tomohiro Ishii vs. Frat House's Preston Vance

The Frat House members seem far more interested in partying than they do winning their bouts, which is unfortunate considering they are a supremely talented collection of athletes who've shown flashes of their potential over the course of their assorted career in AEW and ROH. Perhaps the top of the list when it comes to that conversation is Preston Vance. Whether it was as a member of The Dark Order or standing alongside La Faccion Ingobernables, Vance has gone one-on-one with Jon Moxley, challenged Orange Cassidy for the International Title, competed against Lee Moriarty for the Pure Title, and yet every bit of that potential seems wasted as he, in his own words, said “win or lose, we booze”.
On the other hand, you've got “The Stone Pitbull” Tomohiro Ishii who is purely focused on the fight in front of him and the potential to add championships to his trophy case. In fact tomorrow night in Chicago, at NJPW's WINDY CITY RIOT 2025, he could add the NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship to that as he challenges Gabe Kidd in a 30-Minute Iron Man Match. So as much as tonight's match is about beating Preston Vance, it's also about getting prepared for the fight with Kidd in 24 hours. If Vance hopes to defeat “The Stone Pitbull” he's either going to have to set all the distractions of The Frat House aside, or use his frat bros as leverage against the 6-Time NEVER Openweight Champion!
